[Abstract]
Sequence determination is an area of interest in forensic document examination. The ability to determine the sequence of intersecting ink lines or the sequence of pen-printer ink deposition, can provide vital insights into the authenticity of a document. There are established methods used by document examiners for determining the sequence of intersecting lines. However, even established methods have their limitations and they are compounded by the evolving landscape of writing instruments and printing devices. It is with that, that we look to emerging methods, review and build on established ones for solutions. In our study, we compare physical, optical and chemical methods in order to evaluate if they can be used, either individually or in combination, for casework.
