Forensic Science has often been misunderstood to be applicable only to agencies involved in crime and murder investigations. In reality, the forensic mindset and scientific approach can be applied efficaciously to any investigation that seeks scientific answers to specific questions. An MNC pharmaceutical company troubleshooting the source of unknown residues in their drug tablets, insurance companies contesting liability and payouts in a traffic collision, and disputed signatures or documents in a civil suit are some examples of how forensic tools can be harnessed to provide objective, rigorous support for an investigation. With the aid of forensic science, fact-finding no longer leans on assumptions, guesswork, hearsay or taking one person’s word over another’s.
During this talk, Dr Michael Tay will share on the forensic mindset and approach to solving problems, the key concepts and principles of forensic science, myths about forensic science and its commercial and industrial applications.
